When returning your MINI, you have three options to choose from. You can either return your MINI, purchase it, or upgrade to something new. Whichever one you choose, we are here to help. That being said, if you do choose to return your current vehicle, MINI is excited to offer a handy interactive guide that will help you better understand acceptable wear and use. If any maintenance or repair is required, you will know to have it completed before. If you obtained MINI Financial Services Excess Wear and Use Protection, you would be protected from some repairs.
Acceptable and Unacceptable Metrics
Below, you will find pertinent information regarding what is considered acceptable and unacceptable in terms of damage.
Exterior
Accaceptable
- Scratches or scuffs through the paint that is less than 2" in length
- Exterior dents with damage 2" or less (maximum three occurrences per panel)
- Minor stone chips that affect an area within the 2" middle circle of the Evaluator
- Cleanable road tar
- Superficial scuffs/scratches that do not penetrate the paint
Unacceptable
- Scratches or scuffs through paint greater than 2" middle circle of the Evaluator
- Stone chips that cover an area greater than the 2" middle circle of the Evaluator
- Any dents greater than the 2" middle circle of the Evaluator
- Broken exterior parts that are not replaced or repaired to manufacturer's specifications (e.g., misaligned parts, mismatched paint, distorted body panels)
- Repairs that do not meet manufacturer's specifications (e.g., misaligned parts, mismatched paint, distorted body panels, poor previous repair or repaint)
- Exterior paint damage from excessive organic fallout (e.g., insect decomposition, bird droppings), industrial fallout, or atmospheric conditions
- Buckled, bent, gouged, or deeply scratched bumpers
- Cracked or punctured bumpers
Glass and Lamps
Acceptable
- Minor scratches and bull's-eyes (without any associated cracks) that are outside of the driver's wiper arc, less than 1/2", and do not distort or obscure the driver's view of the road (up to two occurrences)
- Repairs that do not distort the driver's view of the road
- Surface chips in driver's wiper arc
Unacceptable
- Windshield replacement with substandard glass (non-OEM quality/missing rain sensor/not Heads-Up Display compatible, if equipped)
- Any windshield replacement that does not have the approved MINI logo displayed in the glass
- Windshield that has been polished to remove damage
- Star breaks, bull's-eyes with cracks, or windshield cracks that are larger than 1/2";• Any star breaks, bull's-eyes with cracks, or windshield cracks that are within the driver's wiper arc, regardless of size
- Any condition that prevents issuance of a valid inspection certificate in the province where the vehicle is returned
- Any repair with detectable cracks, regardless of size, that distort or obscure the driver's view of the road
- Puncture that results in water penetration
Frame and Body
Acceptable
- Damage that does not affect the safety or structural integrity of the frame or unibody
- Repairs using manufacturer's recommended methods that restore the vehicle to original specification (consult a MINI Retailer for a Certified Collision Repair Centre)
- Minor scrapes, gouges, or dents to the frame or unibody
Unacceptable
- Repairs that do not restore the frame or unibody to manufacturer's specifications
- Repairs that do not follow manufacturer's recommended repair methods (e.g., butt welding)
- Damage that affects the safety or structural integrity of the frame or unibody (e.g., buckled unibody, torn metal channel, kinked radiator support)
- Any sheet metal damage to rocker panels
- Missing equipment including, but not limited to, keys, manuals or cargo covers
- Any vehicle warning lights (engine light, airbag lights, brake service lights, traction control, etc.)
- Incomplete or overdue services
- Non-functioning electrical components (power windows, climate control, iDrive® screen and controls, etc)
- Aftermarket accessories (performance parts, suspension modifications, body panels, radio, etc.)
- Decals
Other
- Missing equipment including, but not limited to, keys, manuals, navigation CDs, or cargo covers
- Any vehicle warning lights (engine light, airbag lights, brake service lights, traction control, etc.)
- Incomplete or overdue services
- Non-functioning electrical components (power windows, climate control, iDrive screen and controls, etc)
- Aftermarket accessories (performance parts, suspension modifications, body panels, radio, etc.)
- Decals
